Guest of the show "Sans Rendez-vous" on Europe 1, Friday afternoon, the head of the emergency department of the Parisian hospital Georges-Pompidou, Philippe Juvin, assures that a "de facto deconfinement" leads in particular to a return of accidents on public roads in the emergency room.

INTERVIEW

Is the situation improving in the emergency room, as the containment of the population has continued for a month and a half now? Not really, according to Philippe Juvin. The head of emergency at the Georges-Pompidou hospital in Paris said on Friday in the program Sans rendez-vous on Europe 1 that "it is becoming tense again" in these services, "but for other reasons" than the coronavirus.

"The tension has gone down in the sense that there are fewer patients who have Covid-19, this is the expected effect of confinement" implemented in mid-March to prevent hospital services from being completely submerged.

"Degraded health states"

"On the other hand," explains Philippe Juvin on Friday, "there is a very significant increase in the other patients, those who do not have Covid-19, and in particular those who have let their state of health deteriorate". This particularly concerns patients who have had a heart attack or a stroke. "They are coming back in a massive and degraded way, with medical conditions that have not been properly treated for one or two months," he said.

CORONAVIRUS ESSENTIALS

> Partial unemployment: the parents' situation clarified

> A new inflammatory disease affecting children linked to the coronavirus?

> What will shopping be like after May 11?

> The French will have to go on vacation near their home

> Why going to the hairdresser will cost more after confinement

But this return of patients who have been slow to seek treatment, perhaps for fear of contracting the disease in the hospital, is also accompanied by that, "more annoying", that of victims of road accidents: "We see reappearance of accidents on the public highway, trauma. This indicates that there is a de facto deconfinement, a relaxation" of the respect of restrictions, still in force until May 11 at least.
